NIUCMS enjoys a rich history of experimental music. The studios began in 1968 as Electronic Music Studios under the direction of G. Allan O'Connor. In 1990, under direction of Dr. James Phelps, they underwent extensive renovation and redirection becoming a powerful, modern environment for computer music as well as other technology-based arts.
NIUCMS: about us

The "Annex Group" is a group of faculty, students, alumni, and other individuals interested in experimental music. They have open, weekly meetings hosting discussions on a wide range of topics. Additionally, the group presents an annual concert in April (free and open to the public) and regularly releases compilations of members' works.
